Learn why the media fails our representative republic!!!!

Bennett offers a great insight into the manner in which the media works. The media's job is to make money for their parent companies. To that end the media needs to keep viewers watching their product. This, however, does not mean that better information will be produced by the media in order to keep people watching their product. Rather, it means they will do what they need to keep viewers regardless of whether this means that will produce better information for their viewers. For instance, they might provide more information about celebrities or entertainment. In this instance, they would be engaging in "infotainment," rather than informing the public. Bennett says all of this clearly and in a more engaging manner using many real life examples. Get it and see what the media does and why it fails us!!!

I was surprised I liked this book.

This book was required for a journalism class I'm taking. I'm glad it was or I'd never have considered reading it. I despise politics and was dreading taking this class and reading this book. I was pleasantly surprised by this author's honest and direct approach to explaining the complicated relationship between journalists and politics. I'm in my senior year of college, and this is perhaps the only one of my school books that I'll happily save to re-read again someday. This version was also cheaper than the one my university bookstore was selling; same edition but printed by a different publisher. Score.

Solid state physics is a complicated and vast subject to understand. This book covers basic concepts regarding to the solid state physics side of semiconductors, without burdening the students of too much math. Straight-forward and easy to understand.

A first taste of mesoscopic physics

Readable introductions to mesoscopic physics are few and far between, many being either far too simplistic and naive or too mired in formalism. Davies gives clear and lucid discussions of such topics as electron confinement in quantum wells, the integral quantum Hall effect, quantum point contacts, and MODFET's/HEMT's. Although by no means extensive and in depth, Davies does point out simplifications and refers the interested reader to relevant references for more details. Overall, it is a balanced introduction.
This book is a useful point of entry for undergraduates to low-dimensional semiconductor physics. Reading this book is good preparation for more advanced and specialized literature including: Solid State Physics vol. 44 ed. Ehrenreich and Turnbull; Perspectives in Quantum Hall Effects, Das Sarma and Pinczuk.
As with any new text, there are errata but an up to date webpage of corrections is maintained by the author.

Good Introduction

The first book you should read if you wanna do some Low Dimentional Electron Physics and only learned Solid State Physics before. It just covers all topics in this field --- with the knowledge in this book, you could read any new paper published recently.
And this book's written style is very friendly --- just a textbook! So it could be finished in 2 days if you know the basic notions in Solid State Physics and concentrate on it.
So there is no match for such a good introductory book --- there's no other ones like this --- I searched a lot when I tried to enter this field, and this is a good choice:)

A Christian survivor of the vicious civil war between Lebanese Christians and Muslims in the 1970s, Gabriel leans on her own terrifying experiences to condemn Muslims, without apparent regard for their ethnicity, ideology or historical role. Consistently using the words "Muslim" and "Arab" as if they were interchangeable, she concludes that the U.S. is "facing total destruction" at the hands of people who are uncultured and cruel, and prescribes such solutions as "profile, profile and profile," and banning "hate education" in Islamic institutions. Though her writing is eloquent and her passion tremendous, Gabriel's strict dichotomy between "evil versus goodness" is too extreme to be informative. Excellent read ! Required reading for all Americans

Brigitte is an excellent author who writes from personal experience. Her native Lebanon was once a prosperous liberal open society until it was destroyed by radical Islam. This book was written in 2006 and it is truly remarkable to see what has transpired in 10 years thanks to ineffectiveness on the part of both the US and European governments and "political correctness ". Not only do we have ISIS but we also have our president & elected officials continuing to deny/ignore the FACTS that Islam is not a peaceful religion & that it has an agenda to destroy everything we hold dear in our liberal society. As a Christian convert with Jewish blood I am very concerned over the events taking place right now in Europe where Christians & Jews are being assaulted in France as they exit their worship services. This is not being reported much due to political correctness. France will surely be the next Lebanon. If you value your life & the lives of your loved ones, do yourself a huge favor & ignore the mainstream media opinions & analysis when the next terror attack takes place. Listen to an expert who has lived through it all; that expert is Brigitte !

Wake up & smell the coffee.

A very good read, even though it is aimed mainly at an American audience. As they say in the USA, perhaps we, too, should "wake up and smell the coffee". I would also recommend the sequel "They Must Be Stopped". It should also be pointed out, however, that both of these books are mainly speaking of the threat posed by RADICAL Islam, not every muslim.

Outstanding Hotwife Tale

This is an exceptionally good story of hotwife erotica. As is typical of this genre, the husband wants his spouse to engage in hotwife activity, but she does not, though she is willing to indulge his fantasy by means of hotwife role playing during their normal sex. But in time, she comes to find the fantasy appealing, and is willing to flirt with other men as an expansion of their role playing. In this tale, the couple, Becky and Jason, love each other profoundly, wish to support each other, and take each step into the life of hotwifing based on mutual consent. So, knowing that Jason wants to see her have sex with another man, Becky flirts shamelessly with Matt, finds it to be undeniably enticing and enjoyable, and soon the threesome are spending an extended night engaged in all manner of sexual activity. In a literary tour de force, St. Clair composed one of the most extensive sex scenes that I have ever read. Supposedly lasting for several hours, there is no aspect of the threesome's love making that is not described over what must be sixty pages of text. Matt is much better endowed than Jason, and he is capable of taking Becky were she has never been with Jason, a fact which Becky lets Jason know. But Jason overcomes his fears of being a cuckold and is sexually fulfilled by observing his wife satisfied as she has never been before. Meanwhile, Becky gains greater confidence in her own sexual powers and takes progressively more control of the sex to the point that she is dominating both of her male partners, but she is never demeaning. Instead, she drives the sex to to the point where both men are both completely satisfied. Simultaneously, Becky has experienced both the exhilaration of great physical sex with Matt and loving, supportive sex with Jason. Becky is certainly the hero of this story, as she comes to control the action, expresses her deep love of her husband, for which he is immensely grateful, expands her own sexual horizons, and is rewarded with enormous erotic pleasure, and her husband's even greater love.

decent intro to sports betting

This introductory level book explains the various bets you can make, and does a good job explaining why most bettors lose in the long run, identifying countless fallacies relied on by losing bettors. The author also identifies various metrics that can be used to evaluate teams. Unfortunately this portion is not well organized and reads like a stream of consciousness. Still, there are a few good things to think about (which most winning better already consider). It would have been nice to see a method to put all these different ideas together into one opinion on a game.

Bet Smarter

I know nothing about the NFL, but last season I made a pretty decent profit betting on it by following the advice from Matt Rudnitsky's pieces at SportsGrid.

Now, that doesn't mean that you should sell all your belongings and go an stick all the money on whatever picks he comes up with this week. That kind of "easy money" or "sure fire winner" mentality is exactly what Matt demolishes in this book. Betting on sports (especially the NFL) is hard, but if you are a casual gambler and want to increase your chances of turning a profit then you should read this book and heed the advice.

The book focuses mostly on NFL but there is lots of good general advice on how to approach betting on any sport, as well as some satisfying ridicule of the inane analysis served up by most pundits and "experts.

If you want to improve your sports betting, especially if you have an interest in the NFL, this book is a must read.

Have checked out a bunch of these betting advice books, and this one trumps them all. Especially recommended for someone trying to learn/get into betting. Gives you such a solid foundation. Starts off with basics and then gets into more advanced tips that will give you an edge! Also, very clearly written, and is an easy read!

I simply loved it from the first page to the last

In one word, this book was amazeballs. I simply loved it from the first page to the last. Fans of Quil's stories will be more than happy with this glimpse into the life of one of the more enigmatic chimera's, Sanguine and just how he came to being.
But be warned: the story will rip you apart emotionally, tug at your heart, make your stomach heave and remind you that a bit of hope in the Greywastes is a truly fleeting thing.

We start off with infant Sami who is found dirty and hungry under a deck in the middle of the Greywastes. I have to say that little Sami about broke my heart. He was starved for love and wanted nothing more than to have a friend. It is very evident from the start that Sami is different, very very different from those around him and it is progressively revealed to the reader just how different he is through the first 8 years of his life. Quil writes Sami very realistically, he is young boy and his train of thought is spot on, to the point where I had to remind myself over and over that he is a chimera.

When the absolute unthinkable happens and the true horrors of life on the Greywastes are revealed to the reader through Sami's meeting with Jasper, I was both riveted and horrified, and like watching a train wreck, I knew it was coming but could only sit back as my poor, love starved, sweet little Sami was broken beyond repair.

Quil dealt with these situations with finesse, we know exactly what's happening but he didn't embellish the story for the shock value, this is an integral part of the story and it needed to be told. Through Sami we feel the confusion, the disgust and watch his slow decent into madness.
I don't want to go into detail as I will be spewing out spoilers left and right so I will just say that some of the moments in this book made my heart soar, I actually swore at Quil when Nero came into the story and was who he was, "Why?! Damn you!! Why did you make me love him!" (Fallocaust fans will know what I mean by that)

Even psycho King Silas has a few moments in this story that will make you laugh and love him a little before he reminds us, in a way that only he can, he was then and still is the Silas we know and hate. And Elish, sexy ice king Elish, seems so different here that I am sooooo looking forward to Quil bridging the gap between what was happening in this book and where we left off in The Ghost and the Darkness VOL 2."

No, this story is not for everyone. Take the authors warnings to heart. It is very brutal, graphic and disturbing (all things I love in a good read) and it quite blatantly shows the shattering of even the strongest minds when faced with unspeakable horrors....BUT it is also about hope, and love, and family..those ties that bind. Everything you love about the Fallocaust series is in this book. (Well except Reaver and Killian, they aren't born yet!)

Thank you Quil, this book is simply magic. I truly mean that I loved it from the first page to the last page. It flowed, it kept me completely enraptured and turning pages well into the early hours some days. You have crafted an amazing story, that at its heart is a very difficult subject to tackle and you've done it with tact and delicacy. I know will be chomping at the bit and asking you repeatedly when the next one is done!

Sanguine takes you where his previous books didn't

What a wonderful book! If you have read the other books, you will certainly like this one. Its hard to believe, but this book challenges what you already know about this series and its characters. Quil has built up a very specific personality to his characters and has set you up to like and dislike certain people in the book. But like the end of Ghost and the Darkness, he has pushed the boundaries of what you "know" about his characters. Sanguine comes to life and instantly you feel for him and hope good things happen to him. This book routinely "humanizes" the Chimera including their creator in a way that none of his other books have. In the end, you find your self understanding much more about Silas, Sanguine, Nero, and Elish than ever before. This is a must read!

I have been really awaiting this book and I was so thrilled and enthralled with this book that I finished it in one day. Poor sanguine, his sorry is one of pain, torture, darkness and the light you hope comes. I absolutely love this book and all the others. Buy it, you seriously won't regret it. Amazing, well done.

About the Author
Professor William F. Messier, Jr., is the Deloitte & Touche Professor at the School of Accountancy, Georgia State University. He holds a Professor II position at the Institute for Accounting and Auditing, Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, and he is a visiting professor at SDA Bocconi in Milan, Italy. Professor Messier has a BBA from Siena College, an MS from Clarkson University, and an MBA and DBA from Indiana University. He is a CPA in Florida and has taught at the Universities of Florida and Michigan. Professor Messier has served as the Chairperson of the Auditing Section of the American Accounting Association and as co-editor of the Journal of Accounting Literature. He currently serves on the AICPA's International Auditing Standards Subcommittee. Professor Messier has authored or co-authored over 45 articles in accounting, decision science, and computer science journals.

It's a fine book

The reviewer who mentioned that most of the important stuff is in the side tables with the tiny font is absolutely correct. Usually those are just summaries of information explained at length later in the chapter, but it'd be really handy to have that information front and center and larger. I know it would make the book longer and heavier, but when trying to study I'm always flipping through the book for way too long.

If you're looking at this book I'm assuming it's because you need it for class and have no say in the matter, but it IS a very informative book and will most likely be helpful if you are taking the CPA Exam in the near future. There is lots of detail and I'd say it's pretty clear, though some concepts are just inherently difficult and require rereading.

This book makes auditing as fun as possible

I used this book for an auditing class and I got a lot out of it. The book sets each chapter up in an understandable, and digestable way.The tables and charts are excellent summaries of the reading and it is entirely possible to just skip the reading and memorize those. Each chapter has thought-provoking questions at the end and activities that are helpful in analyzation. This book takes you from the first step in auditing to the way to fill out the audit report. I have fond feelings for this book.

Renowned text updated for latest PCAOB auditing standards

In its eight edition, this classic textbook continues to be (in my opinion) the highest quality textbook for auditing. Its focus on both practice and theory gives accounting students a conceptual understanding of why auditors would make the decisions that they make during an audit. Students leave this text with the orientation of an audit manager or partner (the planning and design of an audit along with the execution) rather than the orientation of a staff auditor (simply the execution), which is unfortunately the orientation of other textbooks.

Since the prior edition of the book, the PCAOB (the US Public Company Accounting Oversight Board) has issued more pronouncements than in any year of its existence so far. This edition has been revised to capture the latest PCAOB pronouncements. Most striking to me was the revision related to the PCAOB's newest standard on audit risk assessment, which now enjoys an entire chapter (not the case with the prior edition).
